Molding a path towards a successful career in the arts through All-Around Academic Achievement and an emersion into the so-called mainstream art world, understanding the role that academia plays within that world.

Arts: Visual Arts (Fine Arts, Film Making, Performance Art) and Performance (Theatre, Dance, Music, Spoken Word)

And: Combining Arts and Academics for overall success in all aspects of life, professionally and emotionally.

Academic: Working towards a successful career in the arts through academia

Achievement: Setting and achieving concrete step-by-step goals

Goals: Goals are set via a monthly program. The following are examples of goals.

  1. Formulating of questions and writing of essays for each month’s guest speakers. Essays will be graded by English teacher for classroom extra credit.
  2. Assistance in the writing of a publishable a paper on the dynamics of the so-called mainstream art world via the conducting of research and the calculation of statistics. Students will present the work as extra credit for social studies, art history and math.
  3. Participation in monthly art workshops led by working artists, where the goal of the workshop is the completion of a work of art (visual or performance), focused on the month’s artistic theme.
  4. Submersion into the so-called mainstream art world via monthly exposure of the aforementioned artwork in monthly art exhibitions and performances within the mainstream art world. This includes using Lili Bernard Art Studio and the HABLA Underground as the exhibition and performance space that is physically located within a mainstream art gallery district. Student performances and exhibitions will be timed with other art gallery openings and Downtown/Chinatown Art District Quarterly Art Walks.
  5. Preparing of the student for college and graduate school entrance and the achievement of a college and graduate school degree in the arts.
