Original Owned by The Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, NY, Rev. Calvin O. Butts III (pictured below)

The only place in the Gospel where I found mention of Mother Mary at the cross was in John 19:25. John testifies, “Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, ‘Dear woman, here is your son,’ and to the disciple, ”Here is your mother.’ From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.” In this painting, the hand on Mary’s shoulder is John’s. I used rainbow colors to indicate that Mary serves as a role model of motherhood for all a nations.

"This is marvelous! This will be part of our collection of faith."

- Rev. Calvin O. Butts III, pictured here with my son Uriel at the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, NY, June 2006.

For several years, while I was an actress in New York City, I sang in the Gospel Choir of the Abyssinian Baptist Church, under the pastorship of Rev. Butts. In November of 1990, Rev. Butts, baptized me in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen!
