My father’s father, José Rodríguez Figueroa, was a published author, poet, oil painter, multi-linguist, evangelical minister and Mambi (rebel Cuban soldier, during Cuba’s War of Independence from Spain). His publications are housed in Cuba’s national libraries. The text of the journal my grandfather is holding in this painting are excerpts of my Abuelo’s actual publications.  The text touches on the story of his mother’s (Clemencia’s) tragic death.
